George Dimitoglou holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science with concentration in Parallel and Distributed Systems from the School of Engineering & Applied Science of The George Washington University; a M.S. from the University of Maryland and a B.S. from Temple University. His research interests are in the areas of algorithms and distributed systems (middleware and services). A common theme in his work is the integration of disparate, heterogenous, distributed data systems.
He joined the SOHO team in 1996 working on instrument spacecraft operations. Since then, he has been involved in the design and development of the SOHO Science Data Archive and the Virtual Solar Observatory (VSO).
Dr. Dimitoglou has also held a faculty appointment at the Associate Professorial Lecturer of Engineering rank at the School of Engineering & Applied Science of The George Washington University.
He is the recipient of a group Mission Contribution Award from the European Space Agency and a NASA Goddard Space Flight Center National Resource Award. He is a member of the ACM, the IEEE and the Mathematical Association of America.
