INSTRUMENT STATUS
-----------------
CDS: Nominal. Today - Offpoint calibration studies - idle during the
offpoint. CDS plans a full disk mosaic following the offpoint
from 04:28 to 18:10 UT Friday. Later on Friday CDS will test a new
active region program on AR9339, coordinated with MDI's line profile
study.
UVCS: Nominal. Caught comet SOHO-294 yesterday - images are available at
http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/~muzzo/COMET/Comet010207.gif
Today UVCS will ramp down detectors and conduct a test of their sun
sensor safing loop during the offpoint. After SOHO returns to normal
pointing the FOT enables the offpoint flags, UVCS will return to normal
operations and do a short synoptic. Friday UVCS will begin a 10-day
study of the low latitude coronal hole in the West.
LASCO: Nominal. LASCO C2 and C3 doors will be closed during the offpoint, and
some calibrations will be performed after the maneuver. An interruption
in normal operations of about 8 hours is expected.
EIT: Nominal. Today lamp calibrations went well at 10:30 UT, with synoptics
and CME watch in the gap prior to the offpoint maneuver. Some calibrations
after the offpoint as well, before returning to synoptics and CME watch.
MDI: Nominal. Will take 5 minutes of dark images just before the offpoint, then
cycle through nominal focus/full disk best focus/out-of-focus every 3
minutes through the offpoint. Friday - line profiles in high res mode on
AR9339.
TRACE: Nominal. Flarewatch on AR 9334/5 until the end of the MDI HiRes
campaign, then a test run of next week's umbral flash program, some
engineering (WL flat field, PZT cals), and a 2nd try to get full disk
mosaics in 171 & 195 close in time to the EIT 0700 UT synoptic set.
The rest of the day is spent following the same AR complex with a
full FOV; 171/1600/WL are taken until 15:40, then UV/WL only.
AOB -- CDS/SOHO WEB SITE
--------------------------
The CDS team has launched a new web site, which went online
on February 7.
Gone is the dark blue background and yellow text to be replaced
with crisp black on white text and improved menu bars for
ease of navigation.
If you have the CDS site bookmarked as http://solg2.bnsc.rl.ac.uk
then you should be able to go straight to the new site. However if you
have book marked pages inside the old site they will still work, but over
the next few weeks will be withdrawn. The old pages are NOT being maintained
Some new features are:
Quicklinks available from the front page (e.g. for the Request Diary).
CDS Online Users Guide.
Updated Gallery displays and publication information.
Now that it is online we shall quickly add further new features.
For example:
ATLAS: It will have up and down buttons against
the images, to avoid having to return to the index.
POINTINGS: Users will be able to select a day and have
the pointings and AR numbers displayed.
ABSTRACTS: Short abstracts from the latest papers or work in hand
including an image &/or movie or two.
TALKS: Power point presentations given by the CDS team will
be browsable and downloadable.
Please use the site and pass any comments to the CDS team.
