SOHO WEEKLY PLANNING MEETING MINUTES For Week 35, Aug 26 - Sept 1, 1996 CHAIR: Laura Allen NOTES: Piet Martens 1. ANNOUNCEMENTS In response to a recent SWT decision, starting today SOHO joint observations (JOP runs, Intercals, collaborations, and campaigns) have been assigned a unique number from their very first appearance in the planning process, i.e. the SOHO calendar. See there, or under point 4 of these minutes for examples. This number will be used in the experiment IAP's, and therefrom propagate into the as-run database and the catalogues, as well as to the headers of the FITS files. This way all the information pertaining to one campaign is linked from the beginning of the data pipeline all the way into the archive, for the benefit of future archive users. It was pointed out that the user does not need to know a priori the exact number of the campaign in order to get access to the data; the point is that the information is linked internally through the campaign number. For example, a future user may do a search for runs of JOP048 in August 1996 (a feature not yet implemented in the archive), therefrom retrieve the campaign number(s) for each of of the runs, and then use that to retrieve the data. The SOC has assigned numbers to the activities that are currently on the calendar. The numbers 0-199 have been reserved for past joint observations. Since there is a large degree of arbitrariness in what constitutes a "campaign", a great degree of flexibility has been used in assigning numbers; only multiples of 10 have been used, starting from 200. Thus, when the leader of a JOP or campaign decides that the "campaign" at hand really constitutes a number of different campaigns, she or he is at liberty to assign up to 10 sequential numbers starting from the original one. On the other hand, when several joint observations with different numbers really constitute one campaign, the leader can decide to stick with the first number. Obviously any changes in the numbers assigned to joint observations should be communicated clearly and early in the process to the SOC and the daily meeting. 2. MONTHLY SCHEDULE UPDATE Several updates of the SOHO calendar were made for the period September 2 - October 31, see our Web pages: http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/operations/schedule/monthly.txt 3. OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS DSN Schedule: There are 18 hour contacts for most days in the coming week, covering the La Palma collaborations as well as GSFC daylight hours and evenings. SVM Reserved: nothing outside the usual. 4. COORDINATED OPERATIONS (# refers to the "campaign" number) Ongoing: "Whole Sun Month", JOP044 (#190), EOF: Doug Biesecker Daily: JOP001 phase 1, 8-18 UT, (EIT, #260, with MDI/La Palma) JOP-leader: Joe Gurman M Aug 26 (W35) MDI/La Palma Collaboration 8:00 - 19:00 UT (#240) Intercal001 (#270), Udo Schuehle T Aug 27 MDI/La Palma Collaboration 8:00 - 19:00 UT (#240) Rho Leo (UVCS, #280) W Aug 28 MDI/La Palma Collaboration 8:00 - 19:00 UT (#240) Rho Leo (CDS/SUMER, #280) T Aug 29 Rho Leo (CDS/SUMER, #280) MDI/La Palma Collaboration 8:00 - 19:00 UT (#240) F Aug 30 MDI/La Palma Collaboration 8:00 - 19:00 UT (#240) JOP048 MDI/EIT/SUMER/CDS (North pole, #290). Ted Tarbell recommends other experiments to follow suit. 5. WEEKLY SCIENCE TIMELINE - Daily Plans from IAP's: CDS will perform several shifts in its daily plans to coordinate JOP044 observations with SUMER, and have high resolution observations simultaneous with La Palma and MDI. - VC2/VC3 Transitions: MDI requested an additional hour daily between 15:00 and 16:00 UT. The OCD will be submittted to the FOT later this afternoon. - TM Submodes: No submode changes foreseen - Use of Flag: Not foreseen - Timing of Large CMD Uploads: No large uploads foreseen - Updates/Completion Daily Plans: to be submitted to ECS 6.
