* Updated JOPs: - JOP 120, Formation and Evolution of a Sigmoidal Active Region - CDS/EIT/LASCO/MDI/UVCS/TRACE/YOHKOH SXT/Mees Solar Observatory Submitted by: Alexi Glover MDI part revised. - JOP 83, High Cadence Activity Studies and the Heating of Coronal Loops, CDS/EIT/MDI/TRACE/Yohkoh MDI part revised to specify minimal requirements. New CDS studies were added also. * New JOPs: There were no new JOPs for this meeting.

Fludra (EOF), Frantisek Farnik (Europe) Comments: TRACE is interested in doing this JOP. Since it is a target of opportunity, they'll try on a "best-effort" basis, if the Sun and other factors cooperate (their scheduling is a bit tight). They note also the first two weeks in * May * are good to run this study, (after May 15 not so good as they will collaborate with La Palma). CDS also comments the later part of April is better to run this JOP rather than the earlier part of April. * Apr 23-May 14 JOP120 Formation and Evolution of a Sigmoidal Active Region, CDS/EIT/LASCO/MDI/UVCS/TRACE/YOHKOH SXT/Mees Solar Observatory, 1700-2300 UT POC: Alexi Glover Comments: EIT needs two day's warning prior to JOP being done so they can plan subfields appropriately. b) Individual instrument plans ------------------------------- CDS: Plans include: * Apr 3-9 CDS Disc and Limb Crossing Studies * Wk 15+17 CDS/UVCS CME Onset Watch and may be joined by UVCS on these programs: * Weekly CDS [UVCS] Polarity Reversal Monitoring Programme * Once in Apr CDS [UVCS] Radial and Azimuthal Dependence of Coronal Density (P. Gallagher) UVCS: Plans include: * Mar 27-Apr 6 UVCS [LASCO] White Light Channel in Flight Calibration * Apr 3-May 3 UVCS Global Corona and CME Watch Due to the more variable nature of the Sun, UVCS has defined three different Campaign Modes, to become effective beginning of April. See the AOB section for details and relevant Data Policy notes. MDI: Continuous Dynamics period: At least 60 days of full disk Dopplergrams and magnetograms. "Best effort" month activities depend on final DSN schedule; May run high-resolution program for a week or two if there is a good active region in high-resolution FOV. In week of May 15 maybe 4 hours per day for 3 days (special study with La Palma). LASCO: Some extra pB sequences supporting UVCS Calibrations Mar 27-Apr 6 EIT: Note Calibration rocket moved to May 10 (during next proposed MEDOC campaign). HOWEVER, it is noted that the launch date is subject to change again. EIT plans on doing a bakeout the weekend prior to the launch. Note, there is an EIT/LASCO team meeting from 11-16 May in Europe, during this time (also during the next MEDOC campaign), EIT will load up a long plan to cover those days (same plan each day). TRACE: 7-day quiet Sun study in time period 23 Apr - 7 May. Target of opportunity (as usual): Flaring active region. c) Intercalibration activities ------------------------------- * Apr 26 Intercal 1, CDS/EIT

* Next SPWG meeting, is * Thursday * April 20 at 2 pm. (To avoid Good Friday). * UVCS Modes of Operation during Solar Maximum I. CAMPAIGN MODE: - Synoptic program run for 24 hours every day - Observe usual 8 position angles (flexible synoptic) - Revisit 1 chosen position angle 3 more times - Interrupt synoptic for CME Watch (selected 4-day period for targets of opportunity) - Interrupt synoptic for Comet Watch (for a few hours when needed) II. LEAD OBSERVER MODE: - Run lead observer mode with 24 hours of special observations - Run synoptic program every other day (lead observer picks flexible segments and repeats) III. SPECIAL TIMING OBSERVATION MODE: - Star observations which are made periodically each year - Radio IPS observations with interplanetary probes Data Policy ----------- * The data policy for Campaign Mode is: For days when running the synoptic program, provide to the archive within one month of receiving the final data CDs from NASA: all of the data from the core 14 hour coronal observations. For days when running the CME watch program, provide to the archive within one month of receiving the final data CDs from NASA: all of the data from the CME watch observations. * The data policy for Lead Observer Mode is: Provide to the archive within one month of receiving the final data CDs from NASA: all of the synoptic data. All UVCS data will be provided to the archive within one year of the observations. The above policy should provide approximately the same amount of data to the archive in the same time frames as the current policy.
