SPWG Minutes
Friday, May 25, 2001
1. Review of action items
2. Boundary conditions
* Next maneuver is scheduled for June 28.
Preliminary fuel estimate: 0.556 kg + momentum management,
use 0.6 kg for planning purposes.
CDS needs to do some GIS engineering (filament dumps) with doors
closed. Much will be done within the 24-hour waiting period after
last thruster burn, but some will have to be done the next day.
LASCO will need to wait for CDS to open their doors.
* Submodes:
Submode 6 from Wed May 30, 14:30 UT until JOP104 run in August.
* Commanding outlook: See AOB section.
* Eclipse on June 21. LASCO/EIT support & JOP still TBD. See
http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/soc/aug1999_eclipse/support.html
for a baseline of support.
Deadline noon wednesday prior to eclipse for input.
- We may ask to have the SSR in record.
* TXI rocket launch June 21...(White Sands ~1600UT)
- We may ask to have the SSR in record.
* EIT bakeout weekend before eclipse, will attempt more frequent
bakeouts (about every 2 months, to be revised).
* HESSI launch scheduled for June 7. Up to a week of detector cooling
is required before nominal observations can start. Report to SOCs
if anyone needs non-working-hours notification of Major Flare Watches,
and review your plans for HESSI observations.
3. JOPs status
New:
* Jun 5-13 JOP144 Sources of Coronal Oscillations,
CDS/MDI/TRACE/Kanzelhoehe, POC: Jack Ireland
MDI not absolutely required: TRACE/Kanzehoehe is minimum.
MDI will probably (barring HESSI commitments) support when telemetry
is available. CDS have other commitments as well (CME Watch) which do
not leave much time if they are run, but they will try.
Modified:
* Jun 21 JOP123 Narrow band photometry of EUV emission lines,
CDS/EIT/TRACE/TXI, POC: Ed Deluca. Launch after 16 UT.
June 20 may be backup date
* May 14-20 JOP131 Spectro-polarimetric diagnostics of prominences
and filaments with SOHO and THEMIS, POC: Brigitte Schmieder,
MDI/TRACE/THEMIS/EIT/VTT/Yohkoh/GBOs
MDI supported this with 96 min. magnetograms only (due to doppler campaign).
* May 14-27 JOP139 A study of helium abundance from coordinated Sac
Peak-SOHO-Ulysses observations, POC: Vincenzo Andretta
(Andretta@na.astro.it) UVCS/LASCO/CDS/EIT/CELIAS(SEM)/
SUMER/TRACE/Ulysses/Yohkoh-SXT/Sac Peak
4. Priorities for the coming month (W23-26, June 4 - July 1)
a) Joint observing plans and campaigns
* Jun 7,8,10, JOP136/MMOP009 Default HESSI collaboration,
12,13,17 UVCS/CDS/EIT/LASCO/TRACE(TBD)/MDI(TBD)/(+)
* Jun 5-13 JOP144 Sources of Coronal Oscillations (TBC),
CDS/MDI/TRACE/Kanzelhoehe, POC: Jack Ireland, 6-14 UT
* Jun 5-13 Umbral oscillations/penumbral running waves, TRACE/SPO
POC: Karin Muglach, 14-22 UT
* Jun 15-21 JOP142 Motions in Filaments, TRACE/CDS/MDI(TBC)/Sac Peak,
(Sac Peak: 13-24 UT; Prime observing time: 13-18 UT)
POC: Terry Kucera
HESSI takes precedence for TRACE (Major Flare Watches - or likely flare
targets not yet triggering a MFW) and MDI (Major Flare Watch).
T Jun 21 Solar eclipse.
EIT/LASCO support TBC, POC: Gareth Lawrence
UVCS/LASCO/GBOs Coordinated Observations for Solar Eclipse
JOP123 Narrow band photometry of EUV emission lines,
CDS/EIT/TRACE/TXI, POC: Ed Deluca. Launch after 16 UT.
June 20 may be backup date
b) Individual instrument plans
Note: In general, HESSI takes precedence for TRACE (Major Flare
Watches - or likely flare targets that have not yet triggered an MFW).
Also see monthly calendar at:
http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/soc/head_calendar.html
c) Intercalibration activities
W Jun 6 Intercal 1, CDS/EIT, after 16 UT, POC: CDS planner
5. Preview of future months
* See the Monthly Calendar at:
http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/soc/head_calendar.html
6. AOB
* Next SPWG: Friday June 15, 2pm at EAF
* NOTE: DSN is now accepting requests for 2002. Not a first-come-first-serve
principle, but asking early won't diminish your chances.
DSN support should be requested at least 6 months in advance. Keep
this in mind for: ground-based collaborations that require MDI
support, stellar observations that require NRT, etc.
* Commanding outlook
Times are subject to change. More details are available if needed.
Week 23 - June 04: Most of the week command early or late or
on DSS27. Thursday (HESSI launch day) is
good all day.
Week 24 - June 11: Command after 20 UT on Monday or use DSS27. The
rest of the week is good. UVCS star observations
will have no problems.
Week 25 - June 18: Most of the week command early or late or
on DSS27. Friday and Sunday are good. EIT
will have to do post-bakeout cals on DSS27.
Eclipse day (June 21): command before 14 UT,
after 20 UT, or on DSS27 between those times.
Week 26 - June 25: Monday is DSS27 all day. The rest of the week
is good. Maneuvers on Thursday. CDS dumps
