Comet Bradfield passed through SOHO's C3 coronagraph's field of view on April 16 through April 20th. It created quite a sensation with its bright head and long white tail trailing behind it.The coronagraph blocks out the Sun's intense light to allow us to see faint objects in the corona. No one really knew how bright it would be and no one was disappointed.

Now that it is moving away from the Sun, it should be visible to unaided eye observers in the east not far above the horizon before dawn beginning April 24th or 25th.

Previous Picks of the Week

SOHO began its Weekly Pick some time after sending a weekly image or video clip to the American Museum of Natural History (Rose Center) in New York City. There, the SOHO Weekly Pick is displayed with some annotations on a large plasma display.

If your institution would also like to receive the same Weekly Pick from us for display (usually in Photoshop or QuickTime format), please send your inquiry to steele.hill@gsfc.nasa.gov.
