The Odd Couple (June 24, 2013)
Hi-res TIF (1.3M)
The STEREO (Behind) spacecraft observed this rounded coronal mass ejection on the far side of the Sun (June 17-18, 2013). The video covers about 24 hours of activity, a fairly long-lasting event. Images were taken in extreme UV light. This active region has since rotated into view from Earth and has the potential to produce more even flares.
SOHO began its Weekly Pick some time after sending a weekly image or video clip to the American Museum of Natural History (Rose Center) in New York City. There, the SOHO Weekly Pick is displayed with some annotations on a large plasma display.
If your institution would also like to receive the same Weekly Pick from us for display (usually in Photoshop or QuickTime format), please send your inquiry to firstname.lastname@example.org.
