The Halloween Storms: Five Years Later (October 31, 2008)
On Halloween in 2003 and several days leading up to it, the sun unleashed a series of spooky storms, which ignited lots of ghostly looking auroras, and effected power grids, satellites and other electrical equipment. On the fifth anniversary, SOHO takes a look back at the Sun. Dr. Holly Gilbert, a solar scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, narrates. The three minute video includes a number of SOHO clips from these events.

SOHO began its Weekly Pick some time after sending a weekly image or video clip to the American Museum of Natural History (Rose Center) in New York City. There, the SOHO Weekly Pick is displayed with some annotations on a large plasma display.
If your institution would also like to receive the same Weekly Pick from us for display (usually in Photoshop or QuickTime format), please send your inquiry to firstname.lastname@example.org.
