Notes for SOHO Daily Planning Meeting, 09 Sep 1996 (DOY 253) Chaired by: Laura Allen Notes by: Julia Saba (MDI) ANNOUNCEMENTS: None ------------- FOT REPORT by Nick Piston ---------- o Spacecraft nominal. IRU B is up and spinning. o S/C Anomalies: Roll Offpoint anomaly at 253/0345. Reset. o Activities accomplished: Roll Steering Law (RSL) and VIRGO uploads. o Activities planned: 09 Sep: RSL, VIRGO, and SWAN uploads; IRU cal 10 Sep: IRU cal 11 Sep: Reaction Wheel 4 spin up and spin down, Momentum management Station keeping 12 Sep: ACU software patch o Ground System Anomalies: 252/1345: Telemetry dropout due to Station D27 channel failure, <1 min, unrecoverable 252/1354: Command failed verification, retransmitted. 252/1439: TC Block length error during RSL uplink, retransmitted 252/0320: Frame sequence errors during VC4 dump; retramsmitted; consequent loss of 2 min VC2 time (yielding 8 min of VC2 during that contact) PACOR: nominal, no anomalies ECS: nominal, no anomalies SCHEDULE: -------- o Today's long contact: 1350 2340 UT on DSS 27. 1415-1500: SVM reserved 2000-2130: Gyro activities, no NRT o Tomorrow: 1430-1500: SVM reserved 1500-1520: NRT 1520-1720: SVM reserved, but 1600-1645 NRT during Gyro data collection JOINT OBSERVATIONS: ------------------ o Coordinated observations with Sac Peak/LaPalma from 1400-1700 UT, JOP 020 (nanoflares) from 1700-2100, and test of JOP 046 (dynamics and helium line), all on quiet Sun at Sun center. o Today SacPeak is foggy, with high cirrus clouds, but LaPalma has good weather and good seeing. o No SOHO support of VLA filament observations yesterday (Sunday) as there was no pointing information provided in sufficient time for CDS and SUMER. SOLAR CONDITIONS: ---------------- Small active region on disk in SW quadrant, seen in MDI full-disk magnetogram and in Yohkoh SXT image. Also in Big Bear H-alpha image, which also shows small filaments in NW quadrant. EIT images are sorely missed. INSTRUMENT STATUS and PLANS: --------------------------- CDS: nominal. Following small active region on disk for 3-4 hours, then SacPeak/LaPalma study, then JOP 020 and JOP 046. tomorrow: 3-4 hours on active region, then SacPeak/LaPalma, then collaboration with UVCS to look at Fe XII off limb. SUMER: working fine. Supporting Sac Peak/La Palma, JOP 020 and JOP 046 today. Tomorrow, SacPeak/LaPalma, then chromospheric oscillation study from 1700 UT. UVCS: nominal. Making observations of N. polar plumes today and tomorrow, to monitor possible daily changes. Studying Fe XII off limb at mid latitudes in SE; today at position angle 135, tomorrow, pa=105. LASCO: nominal. Making synoptic observations at slightly higher cadence than usual, due to extra telemtry during EIT bakeout. EIT: baking out. Will experiment with taking exposures during bakeout, and may make limited synoptic observations. MDI: nominal. During high rate times today and tomorrow, will continue taking high-resolution images (Dopplergram, continuum filtergram, and magnetogram per minute) in 10 arcmin (E-W) x 5 arcmin (N-S) field centered on Sun center. Using same observing sequence to support SacPeak/LaPalma, JOP 020, JOP 046 test, and SUMER chromospheric oscillation study. AOB: ---- Sarah Gibson and Doug Biesecker thank the SOHO instrument teams for their cooperation and hard work getting data during Whole Sun Month. Sarah and Doug will give a preliminary report at the next SPWG.
