Bocchialini Announcements ------------- Since the SPWG meeting will be held at 14:00 UT (10:00 AM local GSFC) on Friday, 1997 May 23 in the EAF, the daily meeting will be held at 13:00 UT (9:00 AM local GSFC), and will be followed immediately by the weekly planning meeting. (General groaning but no objections.) FOT BRIEFING: ------------- Spacecraft Status: Nominal except RCVR 1 Anomaly Summary: None Accomplished Activities: RSL, Virgo, VC 2 Time-tagged (TT), Acquire new tracking star, RCVR 1 used on D27 Planned Activities: RSL, Virgo, VC 2 TT, RCVR 1 on D27 Ground System Anomaly Summary: 140/0625: TM dropout 9 min D42 recoverable SCP problem Solar status: Extended prominences at Eastern limb, active regions appearing at S-E (too) quiet Western limb Status GBO (JOP9) bad weather in western Europe THEMIS: good seeing good images with IPM in D3 (small problem with pointing stability) INSTRUMENT STATUS: ------------------ CDS - Nominal, but had watchdog error yesterday, which prevented execution of the network boundary and test filament programs. Will run JOP 009, network boundary study, test filament, and CCD calibration. SUMER - test of new on/off disk prominence study (Ly series and Ly continuum) successful (count rates not either on-disk or off-limb); JOP 009 data good, but target lacking. EIT - Nominal; confirm current JOP 009 target lacking in interest. Ran microjet/polar plume program in Fe XII 195 A from 21:10 - 22:40 UT (no obvious jets). CME watch showed most activity from small AR in the NW over the period 1997/05/19 17:00 - 05/20 12:00 UT. UVCS - Nominal; ran abundance study in streamer at PA of 80 at 2.5 R_Sun yesterday, 3.5 R_Sun today in entire spectral range of the high channel. Tomorrow (1997 May 21) will observe at 3.5, 4.5 R_Sun at PA = 80 for Ulysses campaign. S. Fineschi reported on the results of the on-disk observations for in support of the Tom Woods rocket flight intercalibration last week. Data from ICAL 001 and 011 looked good. LASCO: Nominal. Have not seen any CMEs. MDI: Nominal. Still in continuous contact. May 21 Plans: ---------------------- CDS: Pointing for JOP9: prominence/filament at 33N, E90 (from EIT May 20 0:00UT to be followed); pointing at -714, +528 Network boundary: TBD (East of active region on disk) Test/VLA: 650, -567 (TBC before 18.00 UT) SUMER: Pointing for JOP9: X and Y TBD - None participation Test of further new modes for JOP9 Test/VLA: 650, -530 (TBC before 18.00 UT) Off limb study EIT: JOP9 (see CDS)
