9 October 1997 Daily Meeting Minutes Announcements: -------------- Next Saturday for perhaps the entire day in Building 26 there will be a water outage. This may impact the air conditioning system and if it does, computers may have to be shut off. This means no SOHO WWW homepage and no archive for planning images. We'll keep you posted. FOT Briefing ------------ Spacecraft Status: Nominal Spacecraft Anomalies: 281/2325 CEPAC ESU Data Request Error Accomplished Activities: RSL,VIRGO, Submode 6 @ 1659 Planned Activities: RSL,VIRGO,Nom HGA Upcoming Operations: None Ground Anomalies: 281/1540 2 min TM Dropout D66 Line Outage. Recoverable 281/1634 26 min Command Outage D27 CPA Failure 282/0753 1.5 min TM Dropout D46 Connection Failure between SCP and SFG. Recoverable Other: Switch to Submode #5 at 16 UT to give SUMER telemetry to perform an engineering test. SUMER informs FOT that it will switch off the detector after the engineering tests. Switch to Submode # 6 planned at 20 UT after SUMER switched off. (note: after the meeting, SUMER finished their tests in less time than predicted... switch actually took place at ~ 17:26 UT) Switch to Submode #3 (CDS high rate) planned at 18:00 UT tomorrow. SOLAR STATUS ------------ EIT shows a new interesting active region on the East limb. It has been observed yesterday by CDS between 20:00 and 24:00. Coronal loops study near the central meridian. The connection between the two active regions present near the south limb is now very weak. This is confirmed also by the Yohkoh images. Instrument reports: ------------------- CDS: Nominal. Yesterday CDS changed processors. CDS started to observe again at 21:00. After, CDS ran two synoptic observations, a Coronal Hole observation and a Coronal Hole campaign study on the North West limb near Coronal Hole boundary. CDS is looking near the central meridian to study the temporal evolution of coronal loops. SUMER: Nominal. Yesterday SUMER gave telemetry to LASCO/EIT. Today after some engineering test SUMER will switch off again for the next two weeks. UVCS: Nominal. Yesterday UVCS did a LYA channel Flat Field. The OVI channel and the VL channel were switched Off. The measure consist in a movement of the intensity maximum of the Ly-a line on the LYA detector between pix 411 (center of the LYA channel blocker) and pix 711 at 3 pixels step moving the LYA grating and compensating for the mechanisms cross talks between the grating and the mirrow due to the LYA grating movement, with a similar movement of the OVI grating in the opposite direction. Today UVCS will do a similar measure scanning in te opposite direction between pix 411 and pix 111. Tomorrow, to have a reference of the dark count level UVCS will observe at the North Coronal Hole with the internal occulter at 1.3 Ro, to have a small area of the mirror illuminated, and the mirror pointing at 9.0 Ro, a region high enough to have an intensity low enough that what UVCS measure will be a good estimate of the dark-counts intensity. LASCO: Nominal. No new CME. Today Synoptic observations. EIT: Nominal. Yesterday CME seen at 12:00 on North east of the disk. Today: Microject study until 15:00, next active regions campaign with new pointing. Tomorrow: same program. MDI: Nominal. MDI continues Magnetograms movies campaign. MDI still sees some strange patterns in the pointing of the spacecraft.
