05 May 1998 SOHO Daily Meeting Minutes Chairs: Joan Hollis (SOC)/ Julia Saba (SOL) Notes: David Berghmans (EIT) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- Two upcoming Science Club meetings (EAF): May 5, 3:30 pm: 'CME's and magnetic restructering', Zarro et al. May 6, 3:30 pm: 'Modelling coronal loops and the energy released within them', Walsh FOT BRIEFING ------------ Spacecraft Status: Nominal Spacecraft Anomalies: 124/2150 COBS Single DMA failure over one format Accomplished Activities: RSL, VIRGO, SWAN, TTVC2 Planned Activities: RSL, VIRGO Ground Anomalies: 124/2106 TC Anomaly at D24 during heavy NRT (6 min pause) SOLAR STATUS ------------ Various (small) flares occurred in active region 8210, which is approaching the SW limb now, viz. around Monday 15:35 and 23:36. Two small CMEs were also ejected from this active region (on Monday, 22:34 and Tuesday, 01:18). Active region 8214 (NE) showed on Monday 17:51 flaring loops and in an elongated brightening, material was ejected to the north on Tuesday, 09:42. On Monday, 12.15 TRACE (284 bandpass) saw a bright point brightening up close to disc center, which did not show up in corresponding SXT images. LASCO observes a very quiet corona with exceptionally bright streamers in the SE. A new comet is leaving the C3 FOV to the north in the coming few hours. INSTRUMENT STATUS ----------------- CDS: Nominal. Bright point campaign yesterday. Unfortunately CDS missed the bright point TRACE saw. UVCS: Nominal. UVCS/Mars Global Surveyer collaboration continues which means that UVCS will look at East limb all day. LASCO: Nominal. Synoptic program. LASCO will probably support a 'high cadence request' for the Mars conjuction though details are yet unclear. EIT: Nominal. Usual CME watch and synoptic program. First tryouts of JOP80 next week (very short duration sequences). MDI: Nominal. Supporting TRACE quiet Sun study: extracting half of the high resolution field of view centered slightly north of disc center until tomorrow 21:00. TRACE: Nominal. Continuing tracking program through MDI high resolution FOV until tomorrow 21:00. High cadence white light images and cycling at a lower cadence through the other wavelengths.
