SOHO Daily Meeting Minutes for 09-April-1999 Chaired by: J. Hollis (SOC) Notes: Bill Thompson (CDS) DOY: 099 ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * Be sure to carry passcard--sometimes outside door and EOF doors are locked during regular working hours. This may continue for several weeks until repairs are done. * Monday, April 12 at 11 UT (7:00 a.m. local) NASCOM is upgrading its Secure Gateway. The upgrade will affect the ECS commanding and telemetry sockets. Virtually all connections done via sockets between the open (EOF) and the closed (FOT) will be severed at 11:00 UT for about 1 minute. Our "FTP" capabilities will * NOT * be affected and should operate normally. * Tuesday, the daily meeting will be at 9:30 am. This is because of the "Live from the Sun" activities. There will be cameras taping on Tuesday morning, and live transmission Tuesday afternoon. Video will appear on NASA TV and some PBS stations. People are encouraged to work at EOF computers, please don't be camera shy and hide in the EAF -- we want things to look busy ! REGION 8508 MAY BE ENTERING A PHASE OF RE-GROWTH AND THE FREQUENCY OF M-CLASS EVENTS MAY INCREASE. X-CLASS FLARES ARE NOT EXPECTED AT THIS TIME BUT CONTINUED GROWTH IN REGION 8508 WOULD CHANGE THAT FORECAST. GEOPHYSICAL ACTIVITY FORECAST: THE GEOMAGNETIC FIELD SHOULD BE PREDOMINANTLY QUIET TO UNSETTLED FOR THE NEXT THREE DAYS. ISOLATED ACTIVE INTERVALS ARE POSSIBLE ON 09 APR. EIT Lots of activity in 8508. Nothing dramatic. Cyclic shaped filament activation at 09:12 UT. Flux emergence north of 8508. All AR quite active, but nothing really big. Could be that there is a large flare or CME building up in 8508. LASCO Pretty quiet. Small CME on west limb at 07:00 UT. INSTRUMENT STATUS ----------------- CDS Nominal. Synoptic, JOP 83 with TRACE AR 8508, GIS engineering, JOP099 16:30-24:00. On the weekend, running synoptic, JOP 099, CDS/UVCS CME watch. Space for JOP083 on Saturday--will talk to TRACE. Running normal weekend off-limb study. UVCS Nominal. CME watch in SW. Weekend pointing undecided. LASCO Nominal. Running synoptic program. Supporting JOP099 with synoptic. EIT " Simply marvelous." Continuing with CME watch. MDI Running dynamics all weekend. TRACE Nominal. Trial for 3 panel active region looks good. Another hour of Klimchuck loop widths, then AR looking for flares, then JOP099, then active region again.
