MEDOC Daily meeting - Wednesday 24-October-2001 ----------------------------------------------- Report of Tuesday's activities: No further flares since 23/0300, but the forecast is a 40% probability of an X-class event from AR9672. Maria Madjarska reported on JOP 122 data. The SUMER data taken this week show many promising explosive event candidates and are designed to investigate the extension of these events to coronal, as well as chromospheric and TR, lines. Daniela Cirigliano confirmed that yesterday's JOP 133 data showed the target filament well, particularly in NIII and CIII. Alan Gabriel discussed the changing streamer/hole morphology in the NW quadrant. A 'real' hole looks to be emerging and he therefore proposed a postponement of the SUMER slit change to Friday (26-Oct) to allow a better assessment of conditions prior to JOP 130 observations on Friday and Saturday. Maria (via Philippe), Daniela, Brigitte and Alan have volunteered to give short (<= 5 mins) talks describing their scientific programmes and the data obtained during this MEDOC #8 campaign to support them. The talks will be given at the Friday daily meeting, which will also, coincidentally, be attended by the MEDOC scientific committee. ************************************************************************ Based on commanding capability and MEDOC personnel availability it was subsequently agreed to postpone the SUMER slit move until approximately 12:45 UT on Friday 26-Oct. This was also thought to be compatible with GSFC/EOF personnel schedules. ************************************************************************ MEDOC detailed daily plan for Thursday 25-Oct-2001 SUMER ----- Slit position will still be at X=170" (move postponed to Friday) 01:00 - 06:00 Off-limb scattering study (P Lemaire) JOP 133 08:00 - 11:15 On disk line profiles.
