Campaign MEDOC No 3 Report on the weekly meeting for Week 3, 24th to 30th May 1999, held at 8:00 UT the21st May 1999 Logistics : ---------- With the arrival of the weekend and a holiday in France the 24th May, the daily meeting on the 24th has been programmed exceptionally for 15:00 UT. It is therefore necessary that this weekly meeting results in a detailed plan for the 24th and the 25th, although pointing co-ordinates for the 25th can be re- defined on the 24th. The Sun --------- Those hoping for a coronal hole during the week cannot at present be re-assured, although some hole-like structures near the SE limb (S 23 E 63 on the 21.5.99) could be holes which become more definite, as they approach central meridian. Also, we might expect a S-pole coronal hole to appear with further rotation. A number of prominences/filaments exist, which should be available during the week. Programmes available for the week -------------------------------------- - An important activity throughout the week is the planned "limb studies" (JOP 57c), coordinating observations from EIT/TRACE/Pic de Midi/SVST between 0800 and 1200 each day. - JOP 101, Formation of Helium Lines, to be run only on the 24th. - Spicules programme of Hardi Peter to be run on 25th and 26th - JOP 105, Low Corona, a new JOP by Jean Arnaud, with 2 variations. The diffuse corona variation will be run on the 26th - JOP 103, TR Moss, was originally given a lower priority during this week. Following a request from the originators, it will be run twice on the 24th and 25th. - Quiet Sun DEM CDS study (Gabriel). This new study uses only CDS/NIS for the moment. It should be programmed on Quiet regions, hole and non-hole, for evaluation and refinement. - Ionisation degree in Cool structures (Vial), SUMER, CDS, EIT. 2 hour prominence sequence. - JOP 038 Bright point Study, SUMER/CDS/EIT/MDI/ TRACE - Periodic Motions in the Corona, (Arnaud), CDS only study - JOP 102, Coronal Hole and Plumes, rerun the 24th - JOP 40 TR Network thickness, SUMER/CDS/MDI/EIT - JOP 107, Prominence/ Filament Programme, SUMER, CDS.
