Actions
- SPWG-2.1:
- on B.Fleck to alert leaders of selected high priority JOPs.
1. Status update
See minutes of SWT-18
2. Boundary conditions for the coming month
- DSN constraints due to two upcoming launches (NEAR: 16 Feb; POLAR: 22 Feb)
- Remaining commissioning activities:
FEBRUARY:
- Feb. 9-13:
- Experiments participate in Thermo-elasticity Test
- Feb. 12/13:
- Experiments close doors, switch-off high voltages,
and go to standby mode for HOI and 4th reaction wheel test
(check CELIAS script)
- Feb. 17:
- Experiments back on (check CELIAS script)
- Feb. 18:
- Observations of 38Aqr, passing Solar disk, for
experiment calibration (find exact times).
- Feb. 21-23:
- S/C Off-set pointing oscillations in pitch,
yaw, and roll for GOLF calibration
MARCH:
- Calibration JOPs according to ICWG or SPWG schedule (if
possible) Each JOP lasts several hours; one planned for every
3 to 4 days.
- Calibration Roll (1 day). S/C roll from + 180 to - 90 degrees
for polarization measurements, using reaction wheels.
Preceeded by momentum management. Possibly in conjunction
with orbit trim.
- MDI 80 hours continuous (arrange DSN)
- GOLF: Switch to channel B (4h), calibrate (1w), S/C off-set
calibration (3 days).
- VIRGO/MDI: S/C off-set (2 days). 10 arcminutes N/S and E/W
off-set for calibration and flat-fielding. Requires two 16h
contacts and MATRA support.
- EIT/MDI (1 day): 12 arcminutes South S/C off-set for
calibration. Possibly combined with VIRGO/MDI test (check).
Check with Coupe on feasibility and EIT/MDI on exact
requirements.
3. Priorities for the coming month, including JOPs
As presented by Richard Harrison and discussed at the SWT meeting
- Finish commissioning and get into science operations (individual)
- Each group produce publicity material for 2 May event
- Start monitoring & calibration operations/observations, including
intercalibration sequences
- Quick return & first look observations
- Start some basic JOPs
- Synoptic observations
- Stellar cross-calibration observations of 38 AQI (around 19 Feb)
- SWAN: comet observations
- SUMER/CDS: EUV/UV atlas
- South polar study (JOP039: Polar Plume Flow) in March during or
shortly after S/C offset pointing test; Craig DeForest to
coordinate
HIGH PRIORITY JOPs for the next couple of months (in
accordance with the scientific priorities set by the SWT for the next 3
months):
- Network:
- JOPs 022, 013, 015 (JOP 22 should be run during the 80 hours
of continuous DSN contact in March)
- Coronal Holes:
- JOPs 002, 007, 014, 022, 024, 035
- Streamers:
- JOPs 028, 031
- Diffuse Corona:
- JOPs 027, 002 (run at the equator instead of the pole)
4. New JOPs
Craig Deforest presented a polar plume flow study, to be run in March
during or after the pointing offset test (JOP039).
5. Agenda for monthly meetings
- Status update
- Boundary conditions for the coming month
- Priorities + outline for the coming month
- Individual instrument plans
- Calibration plans
- Joint plans
- JOPs status and priorities
- New JOPs
- AOB
6. AOB
M. Huber announced that he was invited to give a plenary talk on SOHO at
the COSPAR meeting in Birmingham and asked for the support of the PIs.
Next meeting: Friday, 15 March 1996 @ SOHO EAF at GSFC
