<H2>1. Review of action items</H2>

<H2>2. Boundary conditions </H2>
* SUMER's grating/focus (4kg+) movements appear to have been the cause
  of the 8 arcsec offpoint that triggered the flag during the
  overnight dwell of the roll.

* As a result of the +X-panel heater changes, ERNE has experienced
  some relief - estimated at 0.85 degrees C.

  Also, MDI has experienced a drift in their ISS loop signal
  indicating that the pointing of their instrument has changed on the
  order of 5 arcseconds. MDI is mounted on the opposite side of the
  spacecraft relative to the fine-pointing sun sensor (FPSS). EIT,
  mounted on the same side as the FPSS has experienced *no* drift.
  CDS has not performed a pointing calibration yet.

* No maneuvers are scheduled for the current planning period, however
  we will need another (small) one before the 3-month continuous
  contact, some time in spring 2002. January 24 is kept as a
  placeholder, but the maneuver may take place between Feb 12 to
  Feb 23.

* HESSI launch scheduled for January 24, 2002.

* VAULT launch (JOP148) has been postponed until sometime in the
  first two weeks of March.

* MSSTA-III EUV rocket launch has a tentative date: March 20, 2002.

* TRACE is in eclipse season - currently doing AR with UV filters,
  moving back to 171 for polar crown filament studies, or when eclipse
  season ends.

* Commanding outlook: See AOB section.
 
* Submodes:  

  Submode 6 for the foreseeable future.

* MDI 5-day continuous: 2nd week of January

  3-month after Feb 25

* The MDI team is on a track to reduce the MDI shutter usage to half
  or less of present usage. See full message under AOB.

  In short - if you have projects that require high-cadence MDI support,
  now is a good time to ask, and make sure to make specific requests
  if you need MDI data.

* EIT CalRoc launch shooting for the week of June 20, 2002. Would like
  to have it near a repeated offpoint maneuver.

* EIT bakeout around mid-January.

<H2>3. JOPs status </H2>
No new or modified JOPs this month.

<H2>4. Priorities for the coming month (W49-52, December 10 - December 30)</H2>
a) Joint observing plans and campaigns
* Dec 09-10	Active Region Streamer Study, UVCS/CDS/Yohkoh, POC: Y.-K. Ko
* Dec 24-Jan 10	Active Region Streamer Study, UVCS/CDS/Yohkoh, 
                  POC: Y.-K. Ko, unless JOP106 is run.

Target of opportunity:
* Dec 24-Jan 10 JOP106/MMOP#011, UVCS

The MMOP011 Sigmoidal active region study has been revived by the
Max Millennium group (until HESSI launch).

b) Individual instrument plans

  - Off-limb line-width measurements (4-6 runs of 8-12 hours each,
    2-3 on the equator and 2-3 on the poles. No AR in both cases.
    UVCS is interested.

  - Particle beam study (once per week)
  - AR/flare diagnostics (once a week when appropriate)
  - Sunspot oscillations study (once per week)
  - Oslo active region loops (T.O.O. run once per week)
  - Oslo sunspot campaign (T.O.O. run once a week)

  - Uninterrupted CME onset watch (one 24-hour period)
    UVCS will contact CDS for collaboration

  - Blinkers in coronal holes (8-10 hours on 4 separate occasions)
    MDI and UVCS will contact CDS if interested.

* Dec 24-Jan 02 CDS Christmas studies (long-duration monitoring)

MDI:

Default plan is full disk, high resolution FOV if exceptional target.

TRACE: Eclipse season. Expect simple plans, following active regions.

EIT: Shutterless in late December.

* Next SPWG: Friday 21 December, 11am (NOTE TIME!)

* The MDI team is on a track to reduce the MDI shutter usage to half
  or less of present usage. to allow the instrument to be used for
  another 5 or more years. We expect to have a meeting to review
  shutter status and plan long-term operations in a few weeks. We are
  still determining what changes are practical, but one of the things
  being considered is elimination of the nominal 8-hour campaigns as
  much as possible, subject to compelling science arguments. So we
  want to give our colleagues a heads up that MDI may not provide very
  good collaborative support during the late summer and fall, although
  we hope to return to collaborative mode in some reduced level around
  the first of the year.

  In short - if you have projects that require high-cadence MDI support,
  now is a good time to ask! 

  Also, if you need MDI data, make sure you request it specifically.

* DSN support should be requested at least 6 months in advance.  Keep
  this in mind for: ground-based collaborations that require MDI
  support, stellar observations that require NRT, etc.

* Commanding outlook

These times are subject to change - more details available if wanted:

Week 49 - Dec 03-Dec 09: D27 most of the week in the morning. Gaps or
                         downlink only on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
                         and Friday afternoons. No commanding Monday.

Week 50 - Dec 10-Dec 16: D27 most of the week in the morning. Downlink
                         only on Tuesday afternoon. D27 all day Wednesday.
                         Gap on Friday afternoon.

Week 51 - Dec 17-Dec 23: Gap on Monday until 19 UT. D27 then a gap on
                         Tuesday. D27 much of Thursday. Wednesday and Friday
                         are good.

Week 52 - Dec 24-Dec 30: Gap on Monday until 20 UT then D27. Gap on Tuesday
                         until 18 UT. D27 all day Wednesday and much of
                         Thursday. Friday is good.

Week 01 - Dec 31-Jan 06: Gap on Monday until 20 UT. Tuesday and Friday are
                         good. Wednesday and Thursday are all D27.
