Three CMEs in 24 hours (January 17, 2014)

Hi-res TIF (2.9M)

Movies: QT: Large ( 44M), Small (1.3M)
MP4 (3.3M), M4V (913K)

The Sun burst out with a trio of coronal mass ejections within 24 hours (Jan. 13-4, 2014). Analysis of images from the STEREO and SDO missions served to identify the individual sources of each event. In the coronagraph images shown here the Sun, blocked by the blue occulting disk, is represented by the white circle so that we can observe fainter events in the corona. The bright object near the top of the still is Venus.

SOHO began its Weekly Pick some time after sending a weekly image or video clip to the American Museum of Natural History (Rose Center) in New York City. There, the SOHO Weekly Pick is displayed with some annotations on a large plasma display.

If your institution would also like to receive the same Weekly Pick from us for display (usually in Photoshop or QuickTime format), please send your inquiry to steele.hill@gsfc.nasa.gov.
