Look at the Solar X-ray Flux plot:

any flares above M should be considered potential proton storm problems (or a Major Flare Watch)
note lots of M flares or activity

Look at the Satellite Environment Plot:

look at the proton flux and if it is above our limits for a proton storm, then execute the proton storm contingency plan
