STOP/START INFO

  • stopall, startall are used as a last resort for problem solving or for taking down software for maintenance
  • Make sure to request the missing telemetry later
  • Do showall and sock to make sure things are fully down and then fully up afterwards
  • Doing a stopall will not reformat open SDU files, so when you request the data you must ask for all data not reformatted
  • stopdps, startdps are used to clear defunct sessions - use only when DPS processes aren't running (check event log for this)
  • stoptlm, starttlm are used if telemetry is down but we don't know why
  • Make sure to request the missing telemetry later, as when doing stopall
  • If stoptlm fails, try a stopall
  • stopcmd, startcmd are used to change metering rates or CMSs - see separate instructions for use in these cases

Make a note in the log whenever any of these are used

  • Can do a showtlm and see that it is active for:

    dps, vc01ref, mdiref, vc01cap, mdicap, vc01sess, mdisess

vc01cap is the session that captures telemetry - a new file is started every half hour

  • There are other stop/start functions in the /u/ecs/exe directory but we almost never use them
